Charlotte Recycling Work Straining Other Cleanup Efforts

Charlotte's Solid Waste Services is experiencing a strain on resources and limited daily citywide services since it took over for the city's recycling contractor after that contractor failed to meet performance expectations.

According to the city, examples include:

  • One street sweeper cleaning uptown Charlotte streets instead of the nine typically scheduled

  • One litter crew cleaning city property instead of the usual nine crews

  • One boom truck clearing heavy debris instead of the usual three

Neighbor Elise Holt, who lives near the city yard where trucks go in and out, says she's noticed.

"It's been different," Holt said.

Routes that were missed as crews filled in for Inland Waste Solution will now get attention.
