Waste Management is reminding its customers that as the holiday season comes to an end, people should be careful of what they throw away. The company warns residents that placing boxes that expensive holiday gifts came in can tip off thieves to the new gadgets in their homes.

To help prevent that from happening, Waste Management recommends breaking down all the boxes gifts came in and making sure they fit completely inside trash or recycling bins. Additionally, the company recommends waiting to put out trash until the morning of trash day or personally taking it to a trash or recycling facility.

Waste Management also has a program called “Waste Watch,” where it trains its drivers to lookout for suspicious activity.
