New Hauling Facility Opens in Tavares

County officials welcomed a new hauling facility to Lake as part of the transition to a new garage and recycling collection system.

WCA, one of Lake's three new solid waste contractors, held a grand opening of its new facility in Tavares last week. The hauling station aims at capturing the area's growth by servicing 23,500 residents in Astor, Umatilla, Eustis, Tavares, Mount Dora and Astatula, as well as the county's government facilities.

"Lake County was a perfect location for it," said Brad Avery, WCA's regional spokesman. "It was very welcoming plus the county has a somewhat friendly open-for-business [environment]."

The Houston-based company utilizes a fleet of collection trucks that run on more sustainable fuel and offers, among other things, special waste, recycling and landfill services nationwide, including at eight other facilities throughout the state.
