Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and TOMRA are collaborating to increase transparency, traceability, and optimization of waste streams. This will allow both teams to execute on their mission to reduce litter and increase circularity in waste streams.

TOMRA Collection provides innovative technology solutions that enable the circular economy. Its reverse vending machines (RVMs) collect, sort and process used beverage containers to be continually reused and recycled back into new bottles and cans. Ericsson Connected Recycling (ECR) is a SaaS platform that offers traceability and trading of waste materials back into new products. The two technology pioneers are now combining their technologies to demonstrate how producers and retailers can monetize their waste as resources and significantly improve their environmental impact by enabling circularity instead of waste to landfill and incineration.

Ericsson and TOMRA will be showcasing this solution by tracking waste collection at HPE’s Discover event (17-20 June 2024) in Las Vegas to demonstrate the potential of the combined technologies. Ericsson Connected Recycling is a SaaS platform powered by an HPE private cloud solution, enabling a transformation from “waste” to circular recycled raw materials that can be remonetized into Enterprise ecosystems.

Marius Fraurud, Head of TOMRA Collection says, “At TOMRA, our mission is to drive circularity through innovative solutions. Our reverse vending machines play a crucial role by collecting and sorting used beverage containers while generating precise data on these materials. The collaboration with Ericsson Connected Recycling, shows how this data can be used to provide complete traceability of materials from waste to new products. By combining our technologies, we are demonstrating how we can turn waste into a valuable resource and drive more sustainable practices in the industry."

Sophia Fahlen, Head of Ericsson Connected Recycling, says, “We are excited to enter this collaboration with TOMRA. Ericsson as a leader in connectivity and digitalization, and TOMRA as a leader in collection and sorting systems.  This is a great opportunity to show how our combined experience and ability to execute at scale, could transform the waste industry, increasing circularity and minimizing the environmental impact of waste.”
