Manchester United, Real Betis Team Up to Clean Up San Diego, Promote Sustainability

Manchester United and Real Betis teamed up with local organizations in San Diego for a clean-up adventure in the California city.

Manchester United and Real Betis teamed up with local organizations in San Diego for a clean-up adventure in the California city.

The two football clubs were joined by the San Diego River Park Foundation, Sports San Diego, San Diego FC, and San Diego Wave FC for a joint clean-up trip at the Mission Valley preserve, an ecological preserve located along the San Diego River. Andrew Cole, former Manchester United striker joined the effort as well.

In addition, Real Betis is bringing biodegradable bags to the fan zone this week for fans to return litter to. Fans who do return litter will have a chance to win prizes.

“We are delighted to collaborate with San Diego Wave, San Diego River Park Foundation, Sports San Diego, San Diego FC, and our opponents Real Betis to promote sustainable initiatives during our visit to the city,” said Christoffer Komen, Director of Tour and Friendlies at Manchester United.

“We recognize the responsibility we have in mitigating the environmental impact of our tours. A big part of that is the travel and that is why we have invested in renewable energy to compensate for the carbon emissions generated across our travel to and within the US.”
