Atlanta — The Atlanta City Council has voted to send the city’s trash to two transfer stations in metro Atlanta. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal owns one of the stations, which is located in southern Fulton County, Ga. Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Republic Services owns the other, which is located in Cobb County, Ga. Atlanta has been trying to formulate a new disposal plan because the landfill that currently accepts the city’s trash — the Live Oak Landfill in DeKalb County, Ga. — is set to close at the start of December.

However, Fulton County officials are vowing to fight Atlanta’s plans, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It ain’t over," a Fulton County commissioner told the paper after the city council’s vote. "We’ll take care of this in Fulton County. We can’t take a pound of garbage. Not one pound."
