Lawmakers in California have advanced two bills that would see a ban implemented on multi-use plastic bags.
The ban would prevent stores from handing out plastic bags. This would follow in the footsteps of banning thinner, single-use plastic bags. The bills would allow stores to offer paper bags or bags made of recycled materials for a 10-cent fee.
The bill’s supporters claim that the state isn’t doing enough to prevent plastic waste in California. While those who oppose the ban claim plastic use would increase and families would be spending more money as a result.
