The Washington-based Environmental Industry Associations has elected Gordon Shaw, president of Marathon Equipment, Vernon, Ala., as chairman of its Board of Trustees and re-elected Charles Appleby, chairman and CEO of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Advanced Disposal Services, as treasurer.

The Washington-based National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) elected Stephen Smith, president and chief operating officer of Hydro Geo Chem, Scottsdale, Ari., and Donald Williamson, president of West Central Sanitation, Willmar, Minn., as representatives to the EIA Board of Trustees. Mary Margaret Cowhey, vice president of Chicago-based Land and Lakes, also was elected as an alternate to the board.

NSWMA also re-elected Jim Perry, president and CEO of Raleigh, N.C.-based Waste Industries USA, as chairman of its Board of Governors. Donald Williamson, president of West Central Sanitation, Willmar, Minn., was elected to serve as the board's vice chairman.

"I am pleased that Jim and Don have agreed to serve in leadership roles on the NSWMA Board of Governors," said Bruce Parker, president and CEO of NSWMA, in a press release. "They repeatedly have demonstrated their commitment to the association and the industry."

The Washington-based Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC) elected Scott Dols, president of Tampa, Fla.-based Trucks & Parts of Tampa, to the EIA Board of Trustees.

In addition, WASTEC elected Bill Wilkerson and Robert Meechi as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of its Board of Governors. Wilkerson is the vice president of sales and marketing for Marathon Equipment Co., Vernon, Ala. Meechi is president of Romeoville, Ill.-based Perkins Manufacturing Co.

"We are pleased and fortunate that Bill and Robert have agreed to serve in leadership roles on the WASTEC Board of Governors," said Gary Satterfield, executive vice president of WASTEC, in a press release.

Casella Waste Systems, Rutland, Vt., hired John Quinn as its new chief financial officer, senior vice president and treasurer. Quinn was the senior vice president of finance for Phoenix-based Allied Waste.

"John has an outstanding record of accomplishment, spanning over 21 years as a finance leader in the solid waste industry," said John Casella, chairman and CEO of Casella, in a press release. "John's broad experience in capital markets, strategic planning, and all facets of solid waste financial management will be a strong addition to our team."
