Michigan Considering New Recycling and Composting Bills

The state of Michigan is considering a package of new bills that would promote recycling and composting to the national average of 34 percent. 

However, the bills have a whole host of issues such as expanding government mandates, new fees and increased costs and possible environmental gains. The bills will amend the state’s regulations covering solid waste, including coal ash and recyclables. They will also have a mixed fiscal impact.   

The majority of the added costs will fall on households, consumers and taxpayers as communities and businesses are forced to cover the costs of the programs.
