Arlington, VA – The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) joined other associations on a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urging the agency to extend the comment period by 60 days on its proposed rule related to non-compete clauses. NWRA and other business groups are seeking additional time to fully assess the effects of the proposal on their industries.

“The FTC acknowledges that this proposed rule would impact a significant portion of the economy,” said NWRA President & CEO Darrell Smith. “Given the breadth of this proposal, we urge the FTC to extend the comment period by 60 days, so we provide comprehensive comments to the Commission.”

Non-compete clauses often are utilized by waste and recycling companies to protect their investments in employee training and keep their trade practices from being utilized against them by competitors within the industry. This still allows for employees who leave the industry to use their acquired skills and knowledge elsewhere.
