Republic Services Sues Flint, Mich., Over FOIA Request

Republic Services, Flint, Mich.,’s current trash provider, has been battling a variety of issues with the city lately. Last month, the city decided to end its contract with Republic, but then it quickly changed its mind and allowed Republic to restore its services for an extended period of time.
Now, Republic has filed a complaint against the city for allegedly failing to respond to its Freedom of Information Act request for "disclosure of all documents, emails, correspondence, evaluations, notes and tabulations involved" in the city's trash contract bids.

The company that wants to keep Flint's trash contract has filed a complaint against the city for allegedly failing to respond to a Freedom of Information Act request.
According to court documents, Republic Services filed an Aug. 11 complaint against the city after the company submitted a Freedom of Information Act asking for "disclosure of all documents, emails, correspondence, evaluations, notes, and tabulations involved" in the city's trash contract bids.
The documents say Republic manager Gary Hicks filed the FOIA on June 29 and the city failed to respond to the request within the five-day period required by law.
