After a costly coal ash spill on the Dan River last year, residents of Lee County are fighting to keep coal ash from being disposed of in their county, according to a report in The Sanford Herald. At the same time, Duke Energy has identified the Anson County Landfillas a possible dumping ground for coal ash.
"It is unlikely we'd use the Anson landfill as part of this project, but part of good planning is having other options identified so we can meet the aggressive timelines," said Duke Energy spokeswoman Erin Culbert.
