Atlantic Beach city commissioners in a split vote Monday deferred until next month action on the proposed settlement of a dispute over landfill tipping fees with the city of Jacksonville.
Commissioners Maria Mark and Jimmy Hill moved to delay the commission’s final vote whether to approve of the agreement – which calls for Atlantic Beach to pay $322,709 – until after the Jacksonville City Council approves the settlement.
Hill and Mark said deferring it would ensure Jacksonville was acting in good faith.
Voting to defer it were Mark, Hill, Mayor Carolyn Woods and Commissioner Jonathan Daugherty. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Beckenbach dissented.
