Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, has named Derrick Standley as its government affairs manager. Standley will be responsible for all local and state governmental collection and disposal contracts, as well as development projects within the company’s Missouri operating area, which includes four hauling companies, one municipal solid waste landfill, one transfer station and any new expansion regions within the state.

In addition, Standley will be responsible for ensuring quality service to 21 current municipal customers and about 100,000 residential customers. He will also focus on growing the region’s municipal collection and disposal businesses by identifying local government service opportunities and strengthening relationships with elected officials and staff.

Standley has more than 27 years of industry experience and most recently served as president of Presidio Environmental. Before that, he was the vice president of operations and engineering for WCA Waste Corporation.

“We are fortunate to have Derrick on our team because of his commitment to serving our customers with unfailing care and responsiveness as well as his entrepreneurial vision that will fuel our growth in the Missouri market,” said Walter “Wally” Hall, CEO of Meridian Waste, in a statement. “He is a proven leader with a long track record serving many Missouri environmental associations while bringing a diverse skillset to this role.”

Standley’s areas of expertise include environmental compliance, government affairs and process improvement. He holds an Environmental Research & Education Foundation National Landfill Operations Certification and is an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Campus Certified Environmental Specialist. He is a member of the Environmental Federation Missouri Association and a recent board member for the Missouri Solid Waste Management Association. He also served on the Missouri Waste Control Coalition for 25 years.

Standley holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo., and served in the U.S. Army.
