Neptune Beach Withdraws Settlement Offer in Jacksonville Landfill Fee Dispute

Neptune Beach, the smallest of the Beaches communities, is calling out the city of Jacksonville over the longtime landfill fee dispute.
Mayor Harriet Pruette said her city is withdrawing its tipping-fee settlement proposal because Mayor Alvin Brown and his administration have ignored the municipality and its effort to resolve the matter that dates back to 2011.
“This is in his hands now and if he’s not willing to step up to the plate and meet us halfway here, then apparently he doesn’t care anything about resolving this tipping-fee issue,” Pruette said Wednesday after notifying Brown by letter of the Neptune Beach decision.
The dispute stems from Neptune Beach solid waste dumped at the city’s Trail Ridge Landfill. Citing an interlocal agreement, Jacksonville says it is owed about $673,965 in landfill and sludge tipping fees by Neptune Beach from fiscal year 2011-12 through November 2014.
