Waste Management Closing Public Recycling Site in Colorado Springs
March 2, 2015
Waste Management is closing the public drop-off portion of its Colorado Springs recycling center, citing the cost of cleaning up blowing litter and problems with contaminated items left at the site.
The center, at 604 4th St. in a mostly industrial area northeast of Nevada Avenue and Fillmore Street, will close to the public Friday. But the center will continue to operate as a collection point for commercial materials, and no employees will lose jobs, said Lara Rezzarday, a spokeswoman in the company's Denver office.
The center, open for more than a decade, was a place where the public could drop off newspapers, cardboard, glass and other items into large containers, which were then taken elsewhere for recycling.
