Harrisburg, Pa. -- Waste Management Inc., Houston, has agreed to pay nearly $2.5 million for drawing up false records on maximum daily volume amounts at the Evergreen Landfill, Coral, Pa. According to Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection auditors, the landfill drew up false records on 139 different days in 2000 and 2001. The forged numbers concealed 2,533 tons over the allowed limit. Waste Management has fired the landfill manager and the scale-house operator.
