Hertz Corp. has launched a new corporate sustainability strategy that highlights resource management and builds on its recycling and waste reduction accomplishments.

The Park Ridge, N.J.-based car rental company said its “Living Journey” plan emphasizes minimizing its environmental footprint through resource management, efficiency improvements and renewable energy production. The company said in a news release it also plans to stress “smart mobility” options for customers and community work.

Hertz said to date it has recycled more than 50,000 information technology units since 2005, which diverted 2 million tons of e-waste from landfills. The company also recycled about 680,000 gallons of used oil in 2011 and reduced paper use by 2.8 million pounds since 2006.

“We are excited to introduce Living Journey, which encompasses all of our efforts as an organization through partnerships, employee education and investments to reduce our impact on the environment, provide customer value and manage our business sustainably," said Mark P. Frissora, Hertz chairman and CEO.
