Hilton Hotels Launch Mattress Recycling Program
Hilton Worldwide has launched a mattress recycling program for its U.S. hotels.
The McClean, Va.-based Hilton said in a news release the program will recycle about 85 percent of its hotel mattresses and box springs into various products, rather than sending them to a landfill. The program will be coordinated with the installation of new Serta mattresses and box springs. The recycling program will include all brands.
Hilton, which has purchased more than 50,000 mattresses in the United States in the past two years, will work with Haymarket, Va.-based DH Hospitality to recycle the materials, including steel springs, wood, cotton fibers and quilt scrap.
Also, through the company’s management system, LightStay, hotels will be able to report and track the progress of its mattress donation and provide additional items during room renovations to Good360, a program that helps identify local nonprofits in need of cased goods.
"This program presents a great opportunity for our hotels globally, offers a cost savings to owners and underscores Hilton Worldwide's commitment to further reduce our waste output," said Randy Gaines, vice president, engineering operations for the Americas at Hilton Worldwide.
