Michigan continues to push recycling forward as it tries to pull itself out of last place among states for recycling rates. With that, Ann Arbor is working on a new drive-thru recycling center.
Recycle Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County have recently unveiled a final concept plan for the city’s new drop-off station. Residents and businesses will be able to drive up and drop off a wide range of recyclable materials including fluorescent lamps, electronics, batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, cooking oil, textiles, foam, plastic, film, cardboard, and more.
This new drop-off station is replacing an existing drop-off station that’s sitting on top of the city’s closed landfill, which officials have called structurally unstable and a station that needed to be relocated.
“The new DOS will continue to service the residents and businesses of Washtenaw County and will manage unwanted materials by diverting, reusing and recycling to a higher and best use where practicable to support the growth and establishment of a local circular economy,” the project website states.
