Due to a fire causing it to close for almost two weeks, the Birmingham Recycling and Recovery facility is back open.
However, the City of Birmingham can’t collect curbside recycling just yet.
While the Birmingham Recycling and Recovery is open for commercial haulers and businesses, it’s not accepting any mixed residential recycling from municipalities this week. Currently, there is no word on when the facility will be able to accept residential recycling.
Luckily, residents can still use Birmingham Recycling and Recovery for household items, but they just need to be brough in and dropped off at community bins manually.
Birmingham City Councilor Darrel O’Quinn commented that, “you don’t have to sort it [recycling] yourself. You can’t just take a big bin and dump paper and metals and plastics in once bin, you do have to self-sort.”
