Underneath the typical blazing Texas sunshine and fierce heat, WasteExpo, held May 17-20 in Dallas, was a shining success. The show featured more than 11,000 participants. More than 7,000 buyers/attendees were present at the show, an increase of more than 7.8 percent from the 6,500 at the 2003 WasteExpo in New Orleans. The buyers/attendees reflected strong participation from both the private and public sectors. And there were 606 international registrants representing 62 countries.
Additionally, the 2004 show featured 118 new exhibitors, bringing the total number of exhibiting companies to 418. The Technology Pavilion increased to 20 companies covering 3,100 square feet. The Truck Components and Supplies Pavilion, sponsored by Waste Age's sister publication Fleet Owner magazine, contained 47 companies and 9,400 square feet.
New to WasteExpo 2004 was the co-location of the Waste Tech Landfill Technology Conference organized by the National Solid Wastes Management Association's Landfill Institute. The Medical Waste Conference returned for a second year and welcomed 115 participants, including 13 sponsors/tabletop exhibitors.
Exemplary industry leaders and drivers were honored at the EIA Inspirational and Awards Breakfast.
