Students in Montgomery County, Dayton, Ohio, came together over the weekend to show off artistic creations using recycled materials.
The Recycled Art Contest welcomed students from various grades to put their creations on display. Students were to use entirely recycled materials and re-purpose them into sculptures at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery.
Judges for the contest consisted of volunteers from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, who picked Elaina Osterday’s non-binary cyborg as the winner for sixth graders and Brain Davis’ sculpture for eighth graders.
“It’s like, especially nowadays, I’ve been hearing a lot of things about the Earth, and I think that recycling is good,” Elaina said. “I also like to make art and sculptures, so I think this is a good way to help the Earth, and it’s fun.”
At the conclusion of the event, Osterday said that she plans to take her winning sculpute home, take some pictures of it, then recycle it.
