Duke Energy and Eden city officials are discussing the possibility of keeping some of the coal ash generated at the nearby Dan River Steam Station forever close to home.
They’re talking about opening a new Duke-owned landfill on the edge of town for some of the ash now stored in ponds and so-called dry “stacks” at the retired plant, which had a huge spill last year that attracted national attention.
