A recycling facility under construction by the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) in Florida is near completion. ECUA was sending recyclables to Tarpon Paper Co., but stopped after the company added a $12.50 per-ton tipping fee to customers.

The Pensacola News Journal has the report:

ECUA serves about 75,000 customers in Escambia County and 20,000 in Santa Rosa County, and offers recycling pickup along with regular sanitation services.

Jim Roberts, a spokesperson for ECUA said customers in Escambia County produce approximately 800 tons of waste per day.

"The new IMRF will be able to sort 25 tons of waste per hour, or approximately 40,000 tons per year, with a single shift," Roberts said.

The facility is set to open in September, and will process "clean" recycling materials like glass, paper and mixed plastics, with the exception of plastic film and plastic bags.
