Food Waste Recycling Company Prepared for $1 Billion Nationwide Expansion

Divert, a company in Concord, Massachusetts working to turn food waste into natural gas, is getting ready for a nationwide expansion backed by $1 billion from Enbridge, a Canadian energy company.

This expansion will help Divert build 30 gas conversion plants that will be able to handle more than 5 percent of all US food waste and negate almost 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Divert cofounder and chief executive Ryan Begin said that the plan is to be within 100 miles of 80 percent of the US population within the next 8 years.

Divert is planning to add 1,000 more stores and sites to handle food waste from, on top of the 5,400 the company already handles.
