Holland, Mich. Receives Grant to Install AI Tech on its Recycling Trucks

The city of Holland, Mich. is bringing high-tech cameras and the power of AI to its recycling trucks through grants and a strategic partnership.

The city of Holland, Mich. is bringing high-tech cameras and the power of AI to its recycling trucks through grants and a strategic partnership.

A 12-month pilot project, which will be starting in June, will see high-tech cameras, global position systems, and computers installed on the city’s recycling trucks to monitor the contents of recycling bins. The project is funded by a $38,368 grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

Holland, Mich. is partnering with The Recycling Partnership, and Prairie Robotics on the program.

Two other Michigan municipalities have this program in place currently and initial results showed a 25% reduction of contamination after the program was implemented.
