Innovative Recycling In The Caribbean: Turning Ghost Nets Into Soccer Nets

With nylon becoming the go-to material to make fishing nets and a large uptick in commercial fishing, the amount of non-biodegradable fishing gear littering the ocean has severely increased in recent decades.

A philanthropic organization in the Caribbean called Sandal's Foundation has one solution to the problem; soccer nets.

The foundation, dedicated to enriching and protecting the islands, has launched a new program they call Future Goals, that takes these left-behind fishing nets and turns them into soccer nets for local youth. The program is the organization's focus for 2022 World Oceans Day.
