Is Minnesota's Recycled Waste Really Being Reused?

With eight recycling sorting facilities, also known as materials recovery facilities, in the state of Minnesota, many residents are curious about where their recycled items are going. Starting their adventure at the materials recovery facilities, each item is properly categorized and ground up or otherwise compacted.

From there, each different material heads off in different directions to be used for a new product. Wayne Gjerde, recycling market development coordinator for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) declares recycled materials from the state are always given another life, adding a statement about companies putting these recycled in landfills assuring "they don't, because it's valuable."
