ISS Dumps Waste Container of Junk into Outer Space

Typically, trash from the International Space Station (ISS) is stored within the station and collected when it is visited by the Cygnus cargo spacecraft.

This could become a method of the past as the ISS tests the effectiveness of new methods of disposal that allow waste to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere safely. To avoid contributing to "space junk" the new method uses a special waste container that burns up upon entering Earth's atmosphere.

Since 1999, the ISS has had to reroute 25 times to avoid crashing into space junk.
