Maple Grove, Minn. Is closing its drop-off recycling center for various reasons, leaving residents to make their own arrangements for recycling.

The recycling center on Fernbrook Lane will be closed after more than 30 years of operation. This is due to the robust curbside recycling program in Maple Grove as well as the accessibility of the Hennepin County Drop-off Facility in Brooklyn Park.

“Since the Covid pandemic, the site is just not of size to to handle that amount of cardboard, plus it’s not environmentally protected. It’s open to the elements,” said Ken Ashfeld, Public Works Director and City Engineer, Maple Grove.

Residents in Maple Grove are encouraged to reach out to Republic Services, the city’s contracted recycler, for additional recycling options.

Republic Services have said it can provide residents with larger recycling carts upon request as well as a second cart for free for household who generate large amounts of recyclables.
