Michigan Grapples with Low Recycling Rate

Even though Michigan government officials recognize the importance of recycling - 86 percent of them - yet the state's recycling rate remains dismal.

It's estimated that Michigan's current rate is 18 percent. Cities and towns across the state have been working to improve recycling programs in innovative ways.

Delhi Charter Township's recycling center is open invitation to anyone that wants to use the service. In addition, they have encouraged residents to use sheep to maintain grassy areas.

The Michigan Recycling Coalition states that a $76 million annual investmentĀ "would result in at least a $400 million to $500 million positive return."
