Minnesota County Unveils New Farm Plastics Recycling Program

In an effort to fill a void left by a plastics recycler that is pulling out of central Minnesota, Becker County is launching a partnership to pick up, bale and recycle farm plastics, boat wrap and greenhouse plastic.

Under the new program, farmers will pay $60 per dumpster load to have their plastics picked up by the county. Plastics will then be baled at the county’s new recycling center. After that, Arkansas-based Revolution Plastics will pick up bales by the semi load.

Revolution Plastics used to pick up plastics for free, but the company announced it is retreating from central Minnesota. In order to make the new program worthwhile, farmers and companies need to generate about three or four dumpsters worth of plastic a year.

Arkansas-based Revolution Plastics officially launched in southern Wisconsin in June 2016, and expanded into Minnesota six months later.
