Ready, Set, Recycle
There is money to be made in recycling aluminum cans this fall. The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Montreal-based Alcan, a manufacturer of aluminum products, is conducting a can recycling contest with $5,000 cash awards. Awards will be given to municipalities that collect the most aluminum cans and those that develop the most innovative methods for promoting can recycling.
Cities that participate in the City Recycling Challenge will compete in one of four population-based divisions, and each city is eligible for a combined total of $10,000 in awards, which are to be used to further promote recycling. The contest will run from Nov. 2-15. The entry deadline is Oct. 31. The winners will be announced at the USCM's 73rd Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., in January.
