York County Former Superfund Site Could Become Landfill

York County Solid Waste Authority is considering turning a former landfill turned Superfund site back into a landfill.

The 300-acre site opened in 1974. However, groundwater contamination in an unlined portion forced a partial closure in 1987. It was declared as a Superfund site and removed from the list in 2005.

The EPA and officials turned the landfill into a 200-acre recreation facility that included a solar array to help with cleanup efforts.
