Battery Resourcers LLC, a company formed by three men from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, recycles lithium-ion batteries via a patented technique that turns any lithium-ion battery into new cathode material for reuse in electronic products.
The trio has been working on the technology for more than five years and recently received a $50,000 grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to continue development of the product.

Three men from Worcester Polytechnic Institute have an innovative approach to recycling lithium-ion batteries that is good for their bottom line, as well as the environment.
Founded in 2015, Battery Resourcers LLC, in North Grafton is committed to changing the dynamics for processing end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, said company co-founder and board chairman Diran Apelian.
Mr. Apelian, professor of mechanical engineering at WPI and founder of the Metal Processing Institute on campus, said the idea for the Battery Resourcers started in his small office at WPI.
