Four legislative amendments will help the European Union recycle 70 percent of its municipal waste and 80 percent of its packaging material by 2030.
The European Parliament has voted in favor of four legislative amendments that will help the European Union recycle 70 percent of its municipal waste and 80 percent of its packaging material by 2030. This decision follows a released report entitled “Combating Food Waste,” which reveals that the European Union (EU) generates approximately 88 million tons of food per year, and a launched petition that urges MEPs to halve the amount of food waste generated in the EU by 2030.
Bloomberg BNA has more:
The European Parliament March 14 voted in favor of four measures that in combination should ensure the European Union recycles most of its waste by 2030.
The draft directives cover waste treatment targets, management of waste packaging, use of landfills for waste disposal, food waste, statistics on waste and a range of other measures. EU directives are laws that set minimum standards EU countries must meet.
