Gov. Snyder to Establish New Recycling Plan for Michigan

The State of Michigan currently has a statewide residential recycling rate of 15 percent, one of the lowest in the country. In an effort to improve that number, Governor Rick Snyder is developing a new recycling plan that will encourage more people to recycle and push for more curbside recycling services.
Governor Snyder will establish the plan based on recommendations sent to him by two task forces and include a payment plan for the new initiatives.

Governor Rick Snyder says he will roll out a plan this coming fall to boost recycling in the state. Michigan’s statewide residential recycling rate of 15 percent is among the lowest in the country.
Snyder says getting more people to recycle will be a top priority that will include unilateral actions he can take as governor and asking the Legislature to adopt new laws. The governor says too many Michigan communities don’t have curbside recycling, and it’s still too cheap and easy to send recyclable solid waste to landfills.
