Forever Chemicals Found to Persist Beyond Wastewater Cleaning Cycle

Research has shown that there are a number of chemicals that are difficult or currently impossible to clear from wastewater, posing a number of concerns.

Most wastewater is tainted with chemicals from industrial and manufacturing processes or consumer products. However, there are around 4,700 fully synthetic chemicals that persist in wastewater even after it has gone through the cleaning process. These chemicals fall under the PFAS group of compounds and are referred to as forever chemicals as they are known to remain in this water. With these chemicals in the water that is intended to reuse, it is a concern to scientists and medical professionals alike who are examining their effects on human and ecological health.
