Louisville Prepares for Yard-Waste Plastic Bag Ban
October 8, 2014
For some Louisville residents, a ban on plastic yard waste bags won't be any trouble. They have already greened up their act.
"I never put anything in a plastic bag," said Dennis Carrithers, Louisville attorney and home composter. "Composting is not that hard. Anybody can do it and you don't need to have a real bin."
As the air chills and the region approaches peak leaf season, this will be the final autumn that Louisville and Jefferson County residents can use traditional plastic bags for yard waste disposal. The Louisville and Jefferson County Metro Government Waste Management District's board unanimously voted in May to begin enforcing its new ban on most plastic bags used for yard waste on Jan. 1, after a public education campaign this fall.
