Greencastle, Pa. — After16 years of traveling from Pennsylvania to the Caribbean to the Southeast, approximately 2,435 tons of burned garbage has returned home.

The ash originated in Philadelphia and was part of a 15,000-ton cargo that had been searching for a home since 1985, when the city’s landfill ran out of space. On Friday, the last shipment of ash was deposited in Pennsylvania's Mountain View Reclamation Landfill and topped off with six inches of dirt.
