Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. has opened a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

The facility serves the largest fleet of natural gas-powered waste and recycling collection trucks in British Columbia and Canada, with 77 CNG trucks in the cities of Coquitlam and Surrey, according to a news release.

The waste and recycling trucks are powered by natural gas from FortisBC and technology developed by Cummins Westport of Vancouver.

The move is part of an initiative by Progressive announced in May 2013 to convert the company’s waste and recycling collection fleet to CNG from diesel fuel. Since then Progressive has added nearly 250 natural gas-powered trucks to its fleet.
