CP Group Unveils Virtual MRF Simulation; Provides Update on Major Argentina Project

San Diego-based CP Group unveiled a virtual MRF at WasteExpo. The company also reported on its operations of the most advanced recycling system in the country of Argentina in collaboration with the city of Buenos Aires.

The Virtual MRF is a virtual reality simulation that uses two hand held controls and a virtual reality headset. The simulation allows users to explore every inch of a life-size computer-generated model of a material recovery facility (MRF) in real time.

“This unlike anything that has been done before in our industry,” Ashley Davis, director of sales and marketing for CP Group said in a statement. “Our Virtual MRF uses the most cutting-edge tech to provide our customers with a very concrete sense of what their facility will be like before anything is actually built. This technology has a lot of potential, not only for our sales force, but for our engineers, and we’re proud to be the first to bring it into the recycling equipment manufacturing industry.”

CP Group will be running Virtual MRF demonstrations throughout Waste Expo, May 9-11.

Meanwhile, in Buenos Aires, a new 10 TPH residential single stream recycling system began running last October in the neighborhood of Villa Soldati. Since then it has helped the city achieve its sustainability goals.

"It's the most modern recycling center in Argentina," the Head of Government of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, at the inauguration of the plant in October 2016. "The city has improved a lot in the separation and treatment of recyclable waste," he continued. "Four or five years ago nothing was separated. Today, this system is recovering 400 tons of dry materials per day, and that amount is expected to double to 800 tons per day in 2019."

The system features CP separation equipment, including the CPScreen for 2D/3D separation, MSS Aladdin optical sorter, CP Metering Drum, CP OCCScreen and CP Glass Breaker Screen with patented Cam-Discs.

The recycling system is part of the city’s Green Center, a program involved with recovering recyclable materials and providing education about waste treatment processes and its importance in Buenos Aires.

“Throughout the entire process, the City of Buenos Aires has demonstrated environmental leadership as well as a long term commitment to developing a sustainable solution for capturing the valuable recyclables and diverting them from the landfill,” Dirk Kantak, international sales director for CP Group said in a statement. “Between the City of Buenos Aires, and our local Distributor (Coinsa Construcciones), we could not have asked for two better partners on this successful project.”

CASE Construction Highlighting New Offerings

CASE Construction Equipment has introduced two all-new crawler excavators to its D Series lineup: the CX290D material handler and CX290D scrap loader. With an operating weight of 72,100 pounds and lift capacities of up to 24,650 pounds, each purpose-built model is designed specifically for use with grapples, magnets, shears and other attachments used in the scrap and waste industries, and offers several key features that fine-tune the machines for material handling and scrap loading applications.

The CX290D material handler features a 177 HP Tier 4 Final engine, a hydraulically controlled elevating cab, longer arm and boom with optimized hydraulic circuits for improved attachment performance and reduced shock in the cab, as well as an electronic sensor-driven anti-interference device that automatically prevents the grapple or other attachments from coming into contact with the machine’s structure during operation. The CX290D also features additional guarding on the cab and undercarriage designed to protect the operator and machine during tough waste and scrap handling applications. The scrap loader version features a goose-neck arm and a straight boom configuration for dedicated scrap loading applications.

Each D Series model is built to provide significant operational gains, including decreased cycle times, improved responsiveness and multifunctional controls, and greater fuel efficiency. An electronically controlled hydraulic pump and larger control and solenoid valves increase lifting capacities and improve responsiveness.

The CASE CX290D models meet Tier 4 Final emissions standards through a combination of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) technologies. There is no diesel particulate filter (DPF), no DPF regeneration or associated lifetime service costs. These technologies, combined with the CASE Intelligent Hydraulic System, make the D Series the most powerful and efficient CASE excavators ever introduced.

Faster cycle times are achieved through a new electronically controlled pump, a larger control valve and multiple sensors. These features combine with the CASE Intelligent Hydraulic System and its four integrated control systems to make the best use of the machine’s hydraulic power and momentum, resulting in added strength and fuel efficiency.

The four systems that make up the CASE Intelligent Hydraulic System are: Boom Economy Control (BEC), which reduces RPMs by using gravity during boom down and swing; Auto Economy Control (AEC), which lowers RPMs during idle and automatically shuts down the engine after a preset idle time; Swing Relief Control (SWC), which reduces hydraulic power at the swing start; and Spool Stroke Control (SSC), which adjusts hydraulic pressure during digs.

Using improvements to the Spool Stroke Control system, the CX290D material handler and scrap loader re-use hydraulic fluid whenever possible to automatically increase cycle times and efficiency. The operator experiences a more productive machine without losing the precision of the machine’s controls.

The longer arm and boom of the material handler version and the goose-neck arm and straight boom of the scrap loader version have been designed for optimal performance in material handling and scrap loading applications. The undercarriage of both versions is built with thicker steel and features additional guarding to protect undercarriage components when working in rough scrap and waste handling environments.

CASE D Series excavators now offer more standard features than any previous CASE crawler excavator. This includes oil sample ports for quick sampling of engine and hydraulic oils and an easy pattern selector for the operator’s preference of ISO or SAE controls. Each D Series machine features a fully adjustable operator station anchored by a standard heated air-ride seat and joystick controls that allow for smooth performance.

Each machine is available with a new (optional) LED working light package that provides illumination similar to sunlight – and more than three-times brighter than halogen – allowing contractors to work around the clock. The LED package includes six LED lights (two front, two rear and one on each side) and a side-view camera.

Case also announced the availability of an all-new, custom-fit waste handling guarding/protection package for its 1021G (320 horsepower) and 1121G (347 horsepower) wheel loaders. This size class of loaders is commonly used in waste handling applications, and these CASE models are regularly specified based on the power and performance of the machine, as well as the lower engine exhaust temperatures made possible by the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions technology.

The package was designed in coordination with Craig Manufacturing and the CASE manufacturing plant in Fargo, N.D. It is available to order through CASE dealers in the U.S. and Canada, or directly from Craig Manufacturing.

The package includes comprehensive guarding that protects all critical articulation and access points, including: Front chassis skid plates; front axle ejector belts and wheel end guards; articulation joint debris guards; transmission guarding; fuel tank guard; rear chassis side frame guards; front and rear fenders; cab and windshield guarding; front light guards and rear grille/light guarding. Additionally, the belly plates/guards are electrically actuated (raising and lowering) for easier inspection.

Momentum Fuel Technologies Launches CNG Fuel Management Module Drop-In Replacement & Tailgate System for
Refuse Truck Bodies

Momentum Fuel Technologies is now offering a Fuel Management Module (FMM) Drop-In Replacement for many FMMs on the market.

Momentum’s FMM, which houses the electronics, fuel filter and fuel-fill receptacles, features custom bolt-on brackets to match most existing bolt holes.

“Our product was designed to easily integrate with systems as a direct replacement for other, less efficient FMMs on the market for heavy- and medium-duty vehicles,” Mike Zimmerman, general manager, Momentum Fuel Technologies, said in a statement. “This drop-in option is valuable to customers who need to replace their previous FMM and want a new system which was designed with performance, serviceability and durability in mind.”

Momentum’s new FMM is also able to integrate with the vehicle’s J1939 communication network, providing improvements to engine and fuel system diagnostics, as well as improved driver feedback. The available in-dash digital gauge provides highly-accurate fuel readings, reduces range anxiety and provides accurate distance-to-empty information to drivers.

The new system focuses on fuel efficiency with a Parker HP Regulator with integrated coalescing filter, which allow trucks to operate at a lower fuel pressure and use more of the fuel in their system. It also includes a manifold base design and NGV1 and HD fast-fill receptacles and is equipped with a highly-durable piston-style single-stage regulator, integrated heat exchanger and proprietary poppet technology. It is optimized to operate in extreme environmental conditions while maintaining high flow across the full operating range of CNG vehicles.

The company has also added a 115 diesel gallon equivalent (DGE) tailgate system to its lineup of compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system solutions for Class 6 to Class 8 trucks.

“We are pleased to add to our product line another great CNG solution to meet the unique and varied needs of the refuse industry,” Zimmerman said. “We are committed to supporting the refuse industry with a complete offering of CNG options for all refuse applications.”

Momentum’s tailgate system was designed for E-Z Pack, who had previously used five- and six-tank tailgate systems on its refuse bodies.

“We set out to design a system for E-Z Pack that could contain the same or increased fuel capacity as their old system but with reduced weight, to keep costs in check,” said Zimmerman. “We were able to increase capacity from 105DGE to 115DGE using only three tanks, and this system is 400 pounds lighter than E-Z Pack’s previous system.” The system is designed to be scalable, with a smaller, two-tank 75DGE system available as well.

With safety and convenience in mind, the system features a visible pressure gauge so drivers and technicians can see the pressure in the tank from ground level. The system’s tanks are at least seven feet off the ground with a steel guard structure around the base, designed to be safer in the event of a rear impact. Further, the tailgate system keeps a lower profile than other CNG configurations, for enhanced safety of refuse vehicles.

All E-Z Pack units include a vertical fuel management module (FMM), which houses the electronics, fuel filter and fuel-fill receptacles and works in conjunction with the Rush Truck Centers’ telematics platform, allowing fleet managers to monitor usage and manage fuel consumption. The vertical FMM is narrower than the version used in other Momentum configurations, taking up less valuable space on smaller truck bodies.

All Momentum products feature a fuel pressure regulator with a high-capacity filter manufactured by Parker. This allows the system to operate from 3600 pounds per square inch (PSI) when full to a minimum of 230 PSI, so drivers can go even further on a tank of fuel. The pressure regulator is designed to reduce leak points and weight, and the high-capacity filter is larger and designed to be serviced less frequently than competitive products.

E-Z Pack truck bodies featuring Momentum’s tailgate system are available and ready for delivery.

Momentum Fuel Technologies offers the industry’s first complete CNG fuel system solution for Class 6 to Class 8 trucks, with support from design and manufacturing, to sales and ongoing service throughout the product life cycle. The approach for this product line is based on innovative design, advanced safety features, installation expertise and the industry’s most comprehensive support network.

Momentum’s expansive product line includes six back-of-cab configurations (70DGE, 75DGE, 87DGE, 115DGE, 150DGE and 175DGE), three side-mount configurations (30DGE, 40DGE and 45DGE) and various roof-mount configurations that integrate with multiple body OEMs. The pressure regulator with high-capacity filter comes standard on all Momentum products. New and replacement parts for this system are manufactured in-house by Momentum Fuel Technologies, ensuring quality and improving speed to customers. With safety in mind, all high-pressure fuel lines in Momentum systems are painted yellow, for easier identification by technicians. Momentum products feature an enhanced pressure relief device (PRD) system with eight fast flow PRDs to allow rapid evacuation of CNG in case of emergency.
