DSNY Staten Island Site Temporarily Closes Due to COVID-19

A City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) garage in New Springville was temporarily closed after one employee tested positive for the coronavirus at the site.

Garage 2 and the Staten Island borough office, located at 2500 Richmond Ave. across from the Staten Island Mall, shuttered for cleaning and disinfecting and were scheduled to reopen on March 24 at midnight. Pickups of regular garbage and recyclables are expected to continue as scheduled, but delays are possible.

In addition, as of March 24, 32 DSNY employees citywide have tested positive for COVID-19.

A Sanitation Department garage in New Springville has been temporarily closed due to a positive test for the coronavirus by one employee at that site, according to a department spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, 32 DSNY employees citywide have tested positive for the coronavirus as of 10 a.m. Monday, according to a Sanitation spokeswoman.

“We are currently tracking based on the worker’s assigned work location,” the spokeswoman said when asked how many Sanitation workers on Staten Island have tested positive to the coronavirus.
