Former Hazleton City Landfill at Center of Drill Cuttings Dispute

Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association, a non-profit organization representing the interests of the North American waste service industry, appealed a decision of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) approving Hazleton Creek Properties, LLC, (HCP) acceptance of drill cuttings directly from oil and gas drilling activities. The property referenced in the appeal is the former Hazleton City Landfill.

Gas companies within the state have generated an increasing amount of of cuttings as hydrofracturing or fracking has become widely used in the Marcellus Shale geologic formation.
