Santa Rosa County, Fla. Delays New Recycling Contract with WM

Right before its contract was set to expire, Santa Rosa County commissioners in Florida delayed its decision to end its recycling contract with Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA), days before it was set to begin a new contract with WM.

Right before its contract was set to expire, Santa Rosa County commissioners in Florida delayed its decision to end its recycling contract with Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA), days before it was set to begin a new contract with WM.

The Contract with ECUA was set to expire today, with a new agreement with WM to start on Oct. 1 that would see the county’s recyclables head to a new facility operated by WM. However, late last week, County Administrator Brad Baker asked for the agreement to be pulled from the agenda so that amendments could be made to the document.

"As you know, the county attorneys expressed concerns with the agreement," said Baker.

"We have a meeting set up with the city of Pensacola to discuss their vision for recycling as well. So, if we could pull that, we'll flesh out some more terms that the attorneys (are) comfortable with and bring it back at a different agenda."
