Taos County, NM Restarts Recycling Program After Three Years Thanks to Grant Funding

A recycling program for its community is returning to Taos County, N.M., following a three-year absence.

A recycling program for its community is returning to Taos County, N.M., following a three-year absence.

Residents in northern New Mexico will now have a local option for recycling, preventing them from traveling far away to a recycling facility. The program was canned citing budget limitations, but RAID grants have brought the program back with new state-funded bailers.

“It’s a big deal because so much waste going to the landfill, a lot of plastics, and a lot of aluminum, and cardboard, and a lot of stuff that could be recycled to bring in some revenue,” said Edwards Martinez, Taos County Solid Waste Director.
