The Environment Agency in the UK published its annual figures to the National Packaging Waste Database which reports that aluminum packaging recycling reached a new rate and set “record breaking” amounts recycled.

Measuring aluminum packaging collected through curbside collection, bring, and on-the-go systems, increased by 13% compared to last year. Nationally, the UK set records, recycling 162,357 tonnes of aluminum being recycled, increasing the UK’s aluminum packaging rate to 68%.

“I’m delighted to announce record-breaking recycling volumes for 2023,” said Tom Giddings, executive director of Alupro. “While more aluminum packaging was placed on the domestic market than last year, it’s pleasing to see that recycling rates have more than kept up with pace.”

“As an industry, we’ve been investing heavily in optimizing our collection and recycling infrastructure for the past 20 years and we’re now reaping the rewards of this long-term commitment.”
