The waste and recycling team of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, UK is sending a plea to residents to keep batteries out of their trash following another fire at the Carnaby Household Waste Recycling Site.

Firefighters were able to suppress the fire quickly with no injuries and allowed the facility to operate as normal as the fire only damaged the side of the building. A spark created by batteries being discarded is considered the cause of the fire.

The council is reminding residents that there are proper ways to dispose of batteries or vapes to avoid these kinds of incidents.

“We need the public to help us prevent fires like this from happening and the best thing they can do is never to put batteries in their household rubbish or their recycling bins,” said Councilor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
