Viridor Preparing to Close £317 Million Recycling Facility After Two Years of Operations

After only being open for two years, Viridor is shutting down a major recycling plant in Bristol, England due to “increasingly challenging market conditions.”

The company’s £317 million Avonmouth waste facility could divert hundreds of thousands of tonnes of rubbish from landfills annually, recycle plastic bottles, tubs and trays, and possess an energy recovery facility.

The plan is for the plant to shut down on December 6 and decommissioned on December 23.

"Despite sustained investment from Viridor over the last four years to develop its mechanical recycling capability, including building and commissioning the Avonmouth polymers recycling facility and expanding production, recycling rates are below where they were projected to be in 2020," the company said in a statement.
